About the Service The organisation delivers a broad range of high‑quality supports to children and adults with intellectual disabilities and autism throughout Galway City and County. These include residential and day services, short breaks, community programmes, rehabilitative training and access to multi‑disciplinary supports. The Role The Social Care Worker will be responsible for providing residential and respite support to children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Working as part of a dedicated staff team, the role involves delivering care in line with organisational policies, procedures, guidelines and the service’s Safety Statement. Galway, County Galway € 54,444 - € 63,980 a year - Permanent, Full-time Job Description Role Overview The Person in Charge (PIC) is responsible for overseeing the effective delivery and day-to-day operation of services within a designated centre, supporting adults within a residential and short break respite service. The role includes ensuring that services are delivered in compliance with organisational policies, procedures, and all relevant legislation, including the Health Act 2007 and HIQA standards. The PIC will also take full responsibility for the governance of the designated centre, including financial oversight and operational management, ensuring services are delivered within approved budgets. Key Responsibilities •Lead and manage the overall operation and direction of the designated centre •Ensure individuals are supported in a home-like environment where their health, social, and recreational needs are met •Build respectful and equal relationships that promote independence and personal choice •Oversee and manage centre budgets, including staffing and expenditure •Work collaboratively with the Finance Department to develop and monitor annual budgets •Maintain appropriate systems for managing residents’ personal finances, ensuring safeguards are in place •Encourage individuals to develop independence, personal preferences, and life skills •Communicate consistently using person-first language •Ensure full compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements, including HIQA standards •Lead the development and implementation of person-centred programmes tailored to individual needs and aspirations •Liaise with colleagues across services, professional support staff, families, and visitors with professionalism and sensitivity •Promote a safe environment through effective implementation of health and safety policies, risk management systems, and regulations •Support community engagement and participation for individuals using the service •Maintain accurate records and provide reports as required by management •Complete administrative duties, including HR systems, incident reporting, and correspondence management •Undertake driving duties where required and in line with organisational criteria •Oversee the safe administration of medication in line with policies and procedures •Develop and manage staff rosters in line with service needs, skill mix, and budget considerations •Provide leadership, supervision, and support to all staff, ensuring high standards of practice •Identify and support staff training and development needs, ensuring attendance at required training •Conduct staff development and support meetings in line with organisational guidelines Please note: this list is not exhaustive.
